RENOVATION TITLES-01.jpg
KITCHEN BEFORE-01.jpg

The kitchen in my house was the most high tech state of the art kitchen 1956 had to offer… complete with built in meat slicer and a flame grill in a chimney that spanned three floors and completely split the room in two. The first thing we had to do was take down the huge brick chimney and open up the space. Immediately the entire feeling of the room changed and the flow improved.

I spend so much time in my kitchen and hold many meetings over food so it was essential I had a huge island with seating but that could also accommodate food prep. Contrary to popular belief The Marge does like to cook, especially now she has a magnificent kitchen! I went for a really oversized island at over 14ft which gave me seating, additional storage and room for extra appliances. I couldn’t be more thrilled with my space.

COUNTERtops and island

I worked with Dal Tile to choose the slab that worked for me and I actually selected a panoramic porcelain surface. I wanted drama and veins in a tone that would accentuate the brass accents yet be durable enough for a high traffic kitchen island. The Calcatta Topaz in a glossy finish was laid in a book match so it’s seamless and breathtaking.

SEAMLESS FABRICATION

To create the natural slab effect we worked with the expert team of fabricators at Atlas Marble and Granite. They achieved my ultimate goal of a seamless finish by book matching the pieces. This gives the illusion of one giant slab as the veins are matched perfectly in both the center and down the waterfall sides. It’s truly perfection.

FABULOUS FLOOR

Moderna Deco from the Marble Attache Lavish collection by Dal Tile was the perfect choice for the floor. The colors played into the Calcatta Topaz and the pattern is organic feeling yet structured and geometric. I like to mix prints and Dal Tile has an amazing array of prints and patterns throughout their collections.

WALLPAPER & FABRICS

I love to incorporate prints into every room I design and the kitchen is no exception. For the kitchen the veins in my island and countertops provided a print feel so it was important to stay within a tonal palette of greys to avoid it becoming too busy. The Puccini from Anna French at Thibaut was the perfect choice and I used both wallpaper and fabric in the same print which makes the space feels so much bigger.

Custom kitchen cabinets can really eat up your budget when designing a kitchen. CNC Cabinetry gives the luxury look for an affordable price with high quality materials in the most stylish finishes. I loved working with them on this project and the finished look is so stunning! I chose the style Fashion in Dove Grey FB22. We worked with the incredible Serhat Sahin and his team from The Art of Kitchen in Ridgefield NJ to layout the flow of the kitchen and they totally understood my vision and helped to turn it into this beautiful reality.

Brass hardware

I chose an unexpected combination which absolutely works but many people wouldn’t even consider, traditionally people put silver finishes with grey, but I used oversized Bar Pull handles in a Satin Brass finish from Emtek and it gives an elevated, sleek look.

Motorized shades are such an important feature in every home. Smooth and easy to use the Somfy system was the natural choice. They recommended Glamour Decorating their local dealer to create these custom roman shades.

appliances

Mapping out your appliances requires an expert, I worked with John Cioletti from Reno’s Appliances to select mine. The appearance was equally as essential as function to me so he suggested the Jenn Air Noir series for their chic, sleek look. The rangetop also had brass accents to tie back to my hardware.

My brass hood became the central focal point of my kitchen and I worked with Angelo at Amore Design Factory to create something completely custom and unique to me. It is sleek brushed brass with a classic mirror brass trim that really works with my mix of traditional and modern styling.

STYLE ON TAP

I found the most amazing solid brass faucets that are as functional as the are glam from Vigo Industries. I paired the Gramercy Faucet in Matte Brushed Gold with the Ludlow Undermount Sink.

LET THERE BE LIGHT

For over my kitchen table I wanted something modern yet unexpected and of course in my favorite finish brass. This piece from Kichler was so perfect! It’s the Armstrong 10 Light Chandelier in Natural Brass.

A SEAT AT THE TABLE

CB2 Alpha Brass Bar Stools are the perfect compliment to my island counter and I added an Icelandic Sheepskin Seat Pad for an extra dimension and interesting texture.

Accessorizing is one of my favorite things and I do it to EXCESS! Thankfully I have Joanna Buchanan, Decor Designer & Entertaining Enthusiast, as a friend to help me layer up the pieces in my table settings to a luxe feel!
